Batanghari, Jambi — August 2, 2022. Indonesia took another important step in strengthening its palm oil downstream industry as the Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of PT Nusantara Green Energy’s (NGE) new palm oil processing plant in Batanghari, Jambi. The development of this facility reinforces the region’s role as one of the key palm oil production centers in Indonesia and represents a strategic push toward higher value-added palm oil products.
The facility will apply dry-process technology, an advanced and more environmentally friendly method of palm oil extraction. This innovation is expected to enhance production efficiency, improve oil quality, and deliver greater value to local smallholders. The introduction of this technology also reflects Indonesia’s broader commitment to modernizing and greening its palm oil processing capabilities.
The presence of PT NGE in Batanghari is anticipated to support the economic empowerment of local palm oil farmers and cooperatives by providing stronger market access, better processing capacity, and increased competitiveness. The project aligns with national efforts to expand palm oil industrialization at the regional level, enabling farmers to benefit from higher-value products rather than relying solely on raw commodity sales.
During his visit, the Trade Minister also held discussions with local palm oil farmers to address various government initiatives aimed at improving the price of Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) and strengthening the overall supply chain. This includes improving distribution systems, refining regulatory frameworks, and supporting cooperative-based palm oil development.
The construction of PT Nusantara Green Energy’s palm oil processing plant marks a significant milestone for the palm oil sector in Jambi. The facility is expected to boost regional economic growth, enhance processing efficiency, and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient palm oil industry in Indonesia.
