NGE-YPKPY Collaboration: Building SPOT Research Center in Yogyakarta

As part of the Agro Investama Group, PT Nusantara Green Energy (NGE) continues to strengthen its commitment to delivering sustainable palm oil industry innovations. This commitment was realized through a strategic partnership with the Yogyakarta Plantation Cadre Education Foundation (YPKPY), the organizing body of INSTIPER Yogyakarta and AKPY Stiper, to build a Teaching Plant based on Steamless Palm Oil Technology (SPOT).

The agreement was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the President Director of PT Nusantara Green Energy, Iman Dermawan, and the Chairman of YPKPY, Dr. Ir. Purwadi, M.S., at the INSTIPER campus on Tuesday (10/2). The ceremony was immediately followed by a groundbreaking event for the SPOT-based palm oil mill, which is integrated with the INSTIPER Technology and Innovation Center.

For NGE, the construction of this Teaching Plant is a strategic step to educate and demonstrate the efficiency of future palm oil processing technology. The facility is designed as a learning factory for students and a green downstream palm oil research center.

Petrus Tjandra, Director of PT Nusantara Green Energy and an alumnus of INSTIPER Yogyakarta, emphasized that the innovation introduced by the company is the answer to current industry challenges.

“The palm oil mill utilizing SPOT, or Steamless Palm Oil Technology, is a dry-system mill that provides a solution to the problems faced by conventional mills today. SPOT processing uses hot air instead of steam, eliminating the need for sterilizers and boilers. As a result, this mill produces zero liquid waste,” stated Petrus Tjandra.

He added that the absence of liquid waste makes the factory’s operations much more environmentally friendly, as greenhouse gas emissions are significantly reduced. Furthermore, its smaller and more efficient production capacity design makes NGE’s SPOT technology highly suitable for independent smallholder farmers in Indonesia, as it can be built close to plantation areas.

In this collaboration, the division of roles has been clearly defined. YPKPY provides the land and supporting infrastructure, while PT Nusantara Green Energy takes the lead in supplying the SPOT technology and processing equipment. Both parties will also collaborate to prepare the human resources and experts required to operate the Teaching Plant.

Through this partnership, PT Nusantara Green Energy, under the umbrella of Agro Investama Group, hopes to continue driving innovation in plantation technology. This collaboration with INSTIPER is not only focused on creating more efficient machinery but also serves as a tangible manifestation of the company’s commitment to developing exceptional human resources for a greener Indonesian palm oil industry.
